From Library Journal
Waitz won her first race at age 14, but it was this Norwegian schoolteacher's record-breaking win of the New York City Marathon in 1978 that catapulted her to fame. Her book begins as an autobiography, then incorporates training and running advice along with "inside information" on Waitz's own routines. Separate chapters address beginner, intermediate, and advanced runners in a personalized, highly readable style. The information is hardly outstanding, but it is noteworthy in its thoroughness and its down-to-earth practicality. Charts and training timetables, nutrition tips, exercises illustrated by line drawings, and an analysis of Waitz's career training round out the book. Recommended. Joanne K. Hammond, Pennsylvania State Univ. Lib., Mont Alto Copyright 1986 Reed Business Information, Inc.
